Canada Bay

Mind Our Mangroves was commissioned by the City of Canada Bay to engage directly with residents living on the foreshore to address the destruction of mangroves in the local community. Using community cultural development techniques to change attitudes towards the management and maintenance of mangroves, we recruited children from Victoria Avenue Public School to create public art for the foreshore. Patterns and textures were collected from the mangroves over two excursions using markers and digital photography. Using these images as reference material, students went on to create colourful layered works of art on perspex sheets. These designs were then digitally combined to produce four glass panels featuring patterns of land and water, to be installed in two locations on the Canada Bay foreshore.
